Expérience Communication Experience (ECE) Program for New Students
Welcome to the University of Ottawa's Department of Communication!
You are not alone! We pride ourselves in helping foster the great communication leaders of the future and this is why in 2014 we launched the Expérience Communication Experience (ECE).
Led by the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Department of Communication, Dr. Philippe Ross, the ECE program aims to contribute to a smooth transition into university life and a high quality first year experience for students joining the Department of Communication.
As part of your entry into your first year at the University of Ottawa, students enrolled in Communication, Public Relations, Digital Journalism and World Cinemas programs, will be connected with an upper year student - or, as we like to call them, the Senior Buddies - to assist you in navigating 'university life' during your crucial first semester. As third and fourth-year students, these individuals are typically academically and socially involved on campus and can offer a wealth of knowledge and experience regarding various opportunities, programs, resources and services that are available on and off campus to students. The Senior Buddies are readily available, via e-mail, social media and face-to-face discussions to provide support and to answer any questions, concerns or inquiries new students - you, the Junior Buddies - might have. By joining us, you will be able to tap into the rich breadth of opportunities our Department has available to students in order to reach your academic and social goals here at uOttawa!
We have two dedicated undergraduate students who are coordinating the Fall 2016 ECE program and we are excited to announce them very soon!
The Buddy System
A Senior Buddy acts as a guide to a small group of first-year students (Junior Buddies) in the Communication Department as a member of the ECE program. This individual demonstrates initiative, is engaged within the uOttawa campus and is willing to share his or her enthusiasm with Junior Buddies.
Buddies are, in a sense, acting as ambassadors for the University, the Faculty of Arts, the Department of Communication, and other students. As one of the first points of contact for students who participate in the program, Senior Buddies are expected to be honest, friendly and approachable while demonstrating professionalism, maturity and community engagement.
Throughout the fall semester your ECE Senior Buddies, along with the program coordinators, will be organizing a number of fun social events to help ease the transition into your first year at the University of Ottawa. Information about upcoming events will be regularly added to this webpage, as well as our social media pages, and will be sent regularly to Junior Buddies by the Senior Buddies.
The schedule for the upcoming Fall 2016 is currently in the works and will be announced very soon.

We look forward to meeting you in September!
The program : Expérience Communication Experience is a program specially designed for incoming Communication, Public Relations, Digital Journalism and World Cinemas students to help introduce them to university life and welcome them into the uOttawa communication community.
Senior Buddy : Upper-year students who share their wisdom and tips for success as a uOttawa student in the Department of Communication with the Junior Buddies.
Junior Buddy : Incoming uOttawa students in the Communication, Public Relations, Digital Jurnalism or World Cinemas programs who benefit from the ECE program as they start their university journey.
The logo: The logo features a capital C for “Communication” which also functions as an arrow to symbolize academic progress. In the centre is a stylized depiction of a Senior and Junior Buddy. These buddies symbolize what the (ECE) program is all about: Interaction!
How can I get involved? As a first year student in the department you will automatically be part of the ECE program. Check your inbox for emails from your ECE coordinators and Senior Buddies regarding the program. If you are in first-year Communication, Public Relations, Digital Journalism or World Cinemas and have not received correspondence, please send us an email.
