Our colleague Mahmoud Eid suddenly passed away on the night of Tuesday February 14th.
We feel immense pain, trying to understand the inexplicable. Dr. Eid was a young scholar, a teacher who was dedicated to his students, a versatile and productive researcher, and, above all, a warm, friendly, hospitable human being.
Dr. Eid arrived in the department in 2006, bringing an experience of several years as a teacher and researcher in communication and media studies in Canadian and Egyptian universities. He played a pivotal role in developing the research methods, media ethics and crisis communication curriculum. He was also an enthusiast scholar ready to explore new areas and collaborations both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Eid was the Editor-in-Chief of the Global Media Journal -- Canadian Edition and served on the editorial boards of several academic journals and on the organizing committees of various international conferences. He contributed to over 20 books and journal issues, 50 book chapters, journal articles, and reviews, and several international conference presentations.
Mahmoud Eid will be deeply missed in our department and in the communication scholars’ community. He taught us to appreciate the value of openness and diversity as something that enriches our lives and makes us better. He will be remembered as a great academic always willing to bring new projects to life in order to learn and share knowledge with others. We will remember his smile, his kindness and the love for his family and friends.
