Souvankham Thammavongsa - Writer-in-Residence 2017-2018

The uOttawa Department of English is pleased to announce Souvankham Thammavongsa as our Writer in Residence this coming fall (2017).

Thammavongsa is the author of Small Arguments (2003), Found (2007), and Light (2013), which won the Trillium Book Award for Poetry. Found was made into a short film by director Paramita Nath and screened at film festivals including TIFF, L.A. Shorts Fest, Dok Leipzig. Thammavongsa’s stories have been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize and appeared in the Journey prize anthology,NOON, and other places. She has read at the Guggenheim Museum, in New York, and has been in residence at Yaddo. This year, the Canada Council for the Arts awarded her the Joseph S. Stauffer prize.
