Denis Renaud’s interviews on France 3 and Radio France Bleu Normandie regarding the return of a military bracelet to the family of a Canadian soldier.
On February 24, 2020 in Courseulles-sur-mer in Normandy, Denis Renaud officially accepted the bracelet on behalf of Harry Edward Fox family, the University of Ottawa and Canada. He brought it back to Canada where it will be handed over to the family and later on, to the Canadian War Museum for learning purposes.
Denis Renaud had identified the soldier in 2017 based on the bracelet and after 2 years of research in the archives. The bracelet had been discovered by French Archaeologist Vincent Tessier on October 27, 2014 in Fleury-sur-Orne (Normandy) during a dig under the supervision of Inrap (Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives).
This research is a first in Battlefield Archaeology in Canada as the whole process was done through rigorous scientific methods from the ground up to the identification and the return of the artifact to the family. This will be a case study for further research.
