Hermann Amon did his doctoral thesis at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne. He previously held research associate positions at the universities of Lausanne and Geneva. He was a part-time professor before becoming an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa. His main area of research examines political, military, economic and social aspects of the Roman Empire during the third-century crisis through epigraphic and numismatic sources. In addition to his doctoral research, other areas of interest which will be the subject of upcoming papers are the Illyrian emperors and their impact on the Roman recovery, an examination of the current state of research and writing on the Roman third-century “Crisis" in Brill Research Perspectives in Ancient History (RPAH), and a Brill volume on war and political leadership across the ancient mediterranean world.
