Hons. B.A. 2004
In retrospect, I would say first that the study of Latin greatly improved my writing by refining and deepening my understanding of the syntax and grammar of both English and French.
Second, it instilled a sense of the discipline and perseverance without which a language—be it living or dead—cannot be learned.
Third, and perhaps to my own surprise, I have found that a knowledge of Latin continues to carry with it a certain cachet, and that interviewers have frequently expressed an interest in my study of the language, affording me the opportunity to explain how it has equipped me with a set of skills and habits of work which are of far broader application than one might suspect before learning them.
