As part of the Bronfman Lecture series, the Institute of Indigenous Research and Studies is pleased to welcome one of the spiritual fathers of the Atikamekw people, Charles Coocoo.

Charles Coocoo


Charles Coocoo, whose real name is Matotoson Iriniu, “he who leads ceremonies” in Atikamekw, is an Elder from the community of Wemotaci. Self-taught, he has dedicated his life to protecting the land and its life, as well as to passing on the rich legacy he received from his predecessors.


This event is presented as part of the Faculty of Arts’ Bronfman Lectures in Indigenous Studies.
