Taiaiake Alfred

A reception and book-signing event will follow.

In this, the 23rd annual Bronfman Lecture at the Institute of Canadian and Aboriginal Studies, Professor Taiaiake Alfred of the University of Victoria explores how the image of Indigenous people in Canada has always been a distortion of the truth of Indigenous existence. Indigenous people have been and continue to be understood not in terms of their authentic cultures, lived histories, true personalities and self-determined identities, but as stereotypes constructed to serve Canada’s colonial agenda.
