Nathan der Weise / Nathan the Wise
by G. E. Lessing
A bilingual (German-English) theatre project
by Augenblick! German-Language Theatre Group, Ottawa
Under the auspices of Kirche und Kultur
G.E. Lessing was a key figure of the German Enlightenment. Lessing’s play Nathan the Wise (1779) examines issues such as religious tolerance, the use of reason, and the implications of shared humanity. These ideas are famously expressed in the play's central “parable of the rings”. This production will show key scenes from the play performed in German, with English supertitles and a commenting frame story in English.
