On Thursday, April 12 the uOttawa School of Music community was delighted to celebrate the 2017-2018 academic year. Director Lori Burns highlighted recent donations and thanked our generous donors, many of whom were able to join us. The audience was treated to staged excerpts from this year’s opera production of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro performed by a group of talented singers expertly prepared by Sandra Graham and beautifully accompanied by Connor O’Kane. We also thanked Gilbert Gosselin and awarded him with the Recognition for Exceptional Volunteer Service at the School of Music or his contributions to the opera program. The photo here is a sample of his work!
We traditionally close this event with a group photo of our scholarship recipients.
As we reflect on the season that was, we also offer congratulations to cellist Ethan Allers for winning the 2018 uOttawa Concerto Competition back in February after his stellar performance of the Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor! He will get the opportunity to perform the entire concerto with the uOttawa Orchestra next season. And a big brava to composition student Noora Nakhaei for earning the top prize in the Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra composition workshop in March – her piece will be played on the Thirteen Strings concert on May 4. Finally, congratulations to soprano Jeanine Williams for winning the 2018 Nicole Senécal Emerging Artist Prize earlier this month, selected by a panel of adjudicators representing the School of Music and Ottawa Chamberfest.
