Specific sector requirements

Participation in ensemble courses is compulsory for students in the Bachelor of Music (BMus) program.

Ensembles

MUS 3901, MUS 3902, MUS 3903, MUS 3904, MUS 3905, MUS 3907, MUS 3908, MUS 3909, MUS 3910, MUS 3911, MUS 3912, MUS 3913, MUS 3914, MUS 3915, MUS 3916, MUS 3917, MUS 3918.

A minimum of 12 units from the above ensemble courses are required. The courses may be repeated each year. Please refer below for details on the specific requirements for each instrument.

In the performance profile, up to 24 ensemble units may count toward the program requirements. In other profiles ((general, arts administration, composition, music education, musicology/theory, and piano pedagogy), a maximum of 18 ensemble units may count toward the program requirements.

Registration in a choir (MUS 3904 or MUS 3905) is compulsory for all first- and second-year students with the exception of students registered in Orchestra (MUS 3901).
In the Performance profile, you must register in ensemble courses in each of the four years according to the requirements of your instrumental sector. In other profiles, registration in ensemble courses is required in only three of the years.

Participation in ensembles outside the School of Music does not fulfill the ensemble requirements of the program. Only the above courses satisfy your program requirements.

Registration to some ensembles may be conditional upon a successful audition. If you are not selected after the audition, you must withdraw from the course.
