Berkeley, his definition of God, and the effect that this definition has upon his system of thought as a whole. Hegel contends that Berkeley lapses into Spinozism as a result of his defining God as “omnipresent”. And Berkeley, aware of this difficulty, resorts to the “incomprehensibility” of God in order to attempt to find a way out. Is this sufficient? Or is a more modern definition of God required?
