This week, the Department of Theatre at the University of Ottawa learned with dismay and indignation of the elimination of many programs at Laurentian University, including the one in theatrical studies. This is a restructuring, the deep injustice of which we strongly denounce. We loudly affirm our solidarity with our colleagues in Sudbury, as well as with the students who will suffer the consequences of this decision. Is it necessary to recall the major historical role that Laurentian University has played in the survival and vitality of the Ontario Francophonie, from Hearst to Toronto via Ottawa? We would like to express in particular our support for the professors of the theater department, our colleagues and friends who will have to pay, like their colleagues in French studies, philosophy, political science and other disciplines affected by this measure, the price of this restructuring.
